Self-defense course for women

Attacks on women are a recurring problem. Women are particularly at risk because they are a target for various types of violence, especially sexual violence. The perpetrators are often physically superior (more body mass, higher aggression potential), which means that the starting position is unequal. Many attacks are carried out by people known to the victim.

But as a woman, you don’t have to put up with this! With the right mindset, knowledge of various options for action, and simple techniques, you can protect yourself effectively. Want to learn what you can do against violence? Then join the self-defense course for women.

Self-defense for women – in Zurich

The self-defense course for women is a real labor of love for the Functional Fighting team. As experts in violence prevention, it is important to us that women learn practical and effective techniques against violence – and do not have to rely on theorists who have no experience of violence themselves. The lead trainer is a woman, and you will learn real and effective self-defense against real violence in a safe environment. You will learn to strengthen your individual ability to act, trust in your strength, and defend yourself in an emergency.

Self-defense for women – the workshop topics

Successful self-defense for women is based on various building blocks. The actual technical handling of violent attacks is only one aspect, which is why we also cover the following topics in the workshop.

  • Sharpen your awareness: There are usually warning signs that violence is about to occur. Only if you keep an eye on your surroundings will you see what is happening. If you focus your hearing on the outside world, you will be able to notice what is going on around you.
  • Strengthen your intuition and trust your gut feeling: Women often intuitively know when a situation is dangerous. But they don’t trust their gut feeling because it wouldn’t be socially appropriate. You should trust your inner voice. If something feels wrong, then it is wrong.
  • Keep your distance and set boundaries: Assaults are often preceded by boundary violations. These can be verbal or physical distance. It is particularly important to recognize your own boundaries, communicate them clearly and unambiguously, and not accept any violations.
  • Actively seek help: Especially when women are out alone or in small groups, they should seek help in emergency situations. This can be staff at restaurants or public transportation, but also passersby or the police. If a situation becomes too intense, external support is necessary.
  • Learn to defend yourself and fight with all means necessary: If you consistently follow the four tips above, you will reduce your risk of being attacked. However, this area in particular requires intensive training to ensure that you are able to act even in the worst-case scenario. Approaches from the Combatives and Senshido have proven particularly effective here, as they can also be used effectively by women. When the going gets tough, tough measures are necessary.
